After it Rains: A New Musical

After it Rains is a new musical in development.

The project began in 2018 and, with the help of a fabulous group of initial crowdfunders and talented collaborators, we have come a long way already and are currently in the workshopping and demo recordings phase. Click below to find out more about us and how you can be a part of #TeamSerendipity

It has been quite a journey already; a journey not without its ups and downs though! More of which below…
Help Support Us

We wouldn't have got this far if it wasn't for our amazing backers, both friends and strangers (who are now like friends!), who have helped, and continue to help us on the way with donations. We are extremely grateful for anything anyone can give to help us make this project a success. You. Are. All. AWESOME!

Who's Who?

We have been blessed with some very talented people helping out on this project so far, testing songs in performance and on demo recordings and generally being all-round good eggs! We thank you all for being part of our team. Find out more about our team below.

Perform the Songs

If you're a talented musical theatre singer anywhere in the world and would like to try performing one of our songs, get in touch, we can provide you with sheet music and/or backing tracks. Then share your recording or video with us so we can show everyone how awesome you are as well. Join #TeamSerendipity!

#StoryTime

In the beginning...

The musical was conceived in early 2018 by writers Samanatha Joy and Chris Lawry, and was originally intended to be called ‘Serendipity’. After getting some initial backing to get the project off the ground, by the middle of 2018, half of the music and lyrics had been completed and the libretto had been through three different draft versions already.

During this early writing period, some tumultous events occured in the lives of our writers, in fact at one point, they felt they were living in the story such was the drama! (Well, they do say that you have to ‘live and breathe’ these things…)

The writing team also welcomed librettist and director Chris Collington as a collaborator, helping to redraft and refine the story. It was hoped at this point that the show might have been staged in five test performances in September 2019, so a venue was booked.

In late 2018 there were several unfortunately fairly major hold ups (which we will blog about at a later date) which meant that it was safer, just in case, to postpone the first performance run to concentrate on the online showcase of the musical…

As we regrouped for the next stage, it was decided that the changes in the libretto and the overall feel of the musical really deserved a more fitting name (plus we were getting inundated with messages from people who thought that the musical was based on the film Serendipity…which it most definitely isn’t!), so Project Serendipity turned into the musical After it Rains

The name lives on however, in the title of one of the songs, plus our production team is now ‘Serendipity Musicals’ (with the plots for several future musicals in the pipeline already).

2020’s Covid pandemic really hampered any progress, however, the songs were finally completed in August 2020 and recording of the demos took place in August, September and October. With the threat of another lockdown looming at the start of November, we had to hurriedly get the remaining recordings so that we could complete the set of demo recordings and move onto the next stage AND be able to share them with you all.

We’ve been blessed to have such a great team of collaborators who have lent their voices and talents to the demos, from musical theatre students, stars in the making that have just been signed, to seasoned professionals that have performed in operas, in musicals on the West End and on tour across the world, and world class touring session musicians. It has been a pleasure to adapt around this pesky pandemic that has laid waste to the arts industry.

Next it’s on to testing and workshopping, tweaking, entering industry showcases and hopefully some professional performances.

We are aiming high but the major next stage for us is to get plenty of workshopping done and also gather as many performances (both live and studio recorded) together as possible.

In the spirit of collaboration we are also looking for other musical theatre performers from around the world to test, perform and record any of our songs (please get in touch!) and we are also relying on crowdfunding donations from forward-thinking musicals lovers that want to back something exciting from the very start; you keep this moving, and we love you for it!

Join us on our journey and be a part of #TeamSerendipity.
